Fire Inspection Program

The program is consists of two specific services: (1) Fire Inspections and (2) Fire Safety Surveys.

Fire inspections:

Annual inspections of exisitng structures:

These inspections are required by state law and are provided at no cost to owner or occupant of the building. The inspection is conducted by a certified fire inspector in the presence of the owner or agent, and a copy of the documentation of the inspection will be provided to the owner/agent. These inspections are scheduled with the owners by the fire inspector.

New construction inspections:

All new construction and renovations of existing structures must be inspected in accordance with the Florida Fire Prevention Code. Initially, all building plans are reviewed for code compliance before a Building Permit is issued. As construction progresses, on-going inspections are conducted, and a final sign-off is given prior to the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy. The cost of thes inspections are included in the permit fees.

Occupational license inspections:

This fire inspection is required when a business changes ownership and an application for an Occupational License to conduct business in the city. The cost of this inspection is $35.00 and is scheduled through the licensing office. For information on Occupational Licenses, call 727.363.9242.

Safety survey:

This hazard abatement/building safety assessment program is conducted by on-duty fire personnel and is designed to provide owners with annual surveys for potential life safety hazards and fire safety inspections.
