Historic Preservation Board
The Board is encouraging people to seek Local Historic Designation, where appropriate, on properties in St. Pete Beach. The Historic Preservation Board is a five-member committee of residents appointed by the City Commission to identify, evaluate, preserve and protect historical and archaeological sites and resources within the City of St. Pete Beach. Initially, created in 1992, the Board's mission is to oversee preservation activities and promote public awareness of the cultural, economic and educational importance of historic preservation by:
- Maintaining and updating findings of historical and archaeological surveys and validating those findings;
- Evaluating the significance and eligibility of historic resources for local historic designation;
- Designating eligible local historic resources;
- Nominating historic resources to the local and state list of historic places and to the National Register of Historic Places;
- Placing historical markers and administering other programs aimed at the proper recognition of designated historic resources;
- Advising the City Commission on all matters related to historic preservation policy, including the use, administration and maintenance of city-owned historic resources; and
- Recommending comprehensive plan, zoning and building code amendments to assist in the effort to preserve historic resources.

The Board normally meets on the first Thursday of every month at 2:00 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers at City Hall. The meetings are open to the public, and comments and suggestions are always welcome. |
